David Hesmondhalgh
David Hesmondhalgh is Professor of Media, Music and Culture at the University of Leeds, UK. He is author or co-author of a number of books, including The Cultural Industries (4th edition, 2019), Why Music Matters (2013), Creative Labour (2010) and a major book-length report for the UK government’s Intellectual Property Office on Music Creators’ Earnings in the Digital Era (2021). He is also lead author of a literature review of music recommender systems (2022), commissioned by the UK government’s Centre for Data Ethics and Innovation. From 2021-26, he leads a five-year research project, funded by a European Research Council Advanced Research Grant, on Music Culture in the Age of Streaming
